End of the month

January has whizzed by and we are starting another month. February will be full of things, including getting 900 boxes of Girl Scout cookies into mine and another mom's car, then divvying them up and finally delivering them. Whew, that will be a busy time.

Lots of production meetings and final costume fittings for the musical. Anna is excited to find out she will wear a wacky wig (think Marie Antoinette!)

Marian has succeeded in watching 1/2 of the Star Wars movies this weekend, and I am always surprised that they don't get old for her, she loves them each more when she sees them again.

Gabriel did well in his Erg competition but caught a cold (Bogdan did as well and is actually taking a sick day). He has a math competition this weekend and he hopes to make it to the state finals, if he does well on Saturday.

Long week, glad it's done

Bogdan was a week long seminar at work, with catered lunches and breakfasts, and he did learn something, that's a good point!

Gabriel has been gearing up for an Erg Competition at UTC (University of TN at Chattanooga), so we will be traveling there tomorrow for the competition.

Anna has been busy with tests and play rehearsal all week long.

Marian has been having fun with her birthday presents, including the one from us (the COMPLETE set of Star Wars DVD's). Yes, she is a BIG Star Wars fan. Probably, it started when she watched her first movie at about the age of 3 and went around pretending to be Darth Vadar for weeks.

All my major costumes are done, and some minor hemming to be done. We are in good shape, at least I think we are. We have a production meeting today and we'll find out about the other areas.

Girl Scout Cookies!!

My troop sold over 900 boxes of cookies! Yahoo!! That's a ton of work for my 10 girl troop, and a ton of money we've earned for fun meetings in the future!

Failed experiment

Well, Bogdan tried to see how far his electric car would go and unfortunately failed in the attempt. So, he had to wait in Chattanooga for 6 hours last night and fully charge his car. I think he will have to take an alternate route home to get back.

The Super Bowl will see a rematch again between NE and NY, hopefully the Patriots will do better this year than the last match up.

The day after

Marian's sleepover has gone well, kids went to bed by midnight and mostly slept until 9am. BUT, there was the biggest and noisiest thunderstorm last night and I think it woke everyone up a bunch of times! We'll all need a nap today....

Week in review

Gabriel takes his first snowboarding lesson and loves it. He can't wait until next week. (Yes, it's fake snow, in the App. Mountains)

Marian turns 9 and has a sleepover party tonight. She has sold over 250 boxes of cookies so far.

Anna raises her grades, but still working on her math. (She has sold only 45 boxes...) Anna is having a blast doing the play and busy with rehearsals.

Bogdan wants to see how far he'll make it on his electric charge, and I don't want to drive along for the thrill.

I find out that I need to make 3 more (very complicated) dresses for the musical. UGH.

Happy Birthday!

Marian turns 9 and Jeff turns 47!!

Patriots

Ok, the media have been building up the Patriots and Broncos game all week and as we are now in the 4th quarter and the Patriots are winning 35-10, I really think that the Patriots will win. But, I guess anything could happen in 7 minutes.

It's cold out there

Well, cold for Tennessee

We had a "snowflake" day yesterday and school was canceled. The kids were happy, even though they all realized that a 2 hour delay would have been the wiser decision. Marian made a very small snowman and promptly put him in the freezer. The snow was all gone by 11am. Yet, there was no one on the streets.

We attacked the day by watching movies and putting away the Christmas decorations.

This morning we went with the youth group to participate in the Rosary for Life, a prayerful protest across the street from an abortion clinic. It was a chilly, but sunny morning and the youth did very well, not too much complaining. The Cardinal was there and it was nice to see all the people at this prayerful event.

Big rain today

Rain came and went and came and went and then there was lightning and hail too! There was a river down our street and many crashes throughout the city.

Anna is busy with Mattress rehearsals (Once upon a Mattress) and relaxing tonight at Youth Group.

Marian is busy planning her birthday party and wondering why people don't RSVP in the South (I told her I didn't know why either!)

Gabriel is still in winter conditioning for rowing and also gearing up for many future math team events.

Costumes for Mattress are humming along, all the seamstresses now have the fabric and patterns and are working on them. They have 3 more weeks and should be done them by the first week of February. Anna is very excited about her gold and maroon dress, it fits her perfectly! What a great find at the Oak Ridge Play House, where we borrowed a number of costumes. The total for the play is over 50 costumes, we are making about 35 of them!

Bogdan loves his new car! It looks like the picture below. He is charging for free at work and we also have a home charger for the weekend. We are now using it for all in town travel. NO GAS!!

New Year

New car for Bogdan, who finally decided to buy the Nissan Leaf. He loves it and his "old" car is awaiting Anna's driver license! (read into this stress for parents)

The charging station for our home is being installed as I type this and he should now have a faster charge here at the house. He already has a charging station at work, which is an added bonus working at a national lab.

Girl Scout Cookie Sales

Start today!! New rules in our Girl Scout Council are allowing us (forcing us) to sell cookies almost a whole month early this year. We did not go door to door but instead sent out a virtual knock on the door (email)

Marian has already sold over 15 boxes just by sending out an email to our local friends! Her goal is 300 boxes! Yes, Thin Mints are still the #1 cookie, but my kids prefer the Tagalongs!
