Summer happenings

Lots of things happening around here.  It's been pretty hot here, but only getting hotter, should be close to 110F this Friday!!  Yikes!!  The Ulster kids will have a rude awakening.

Gabriel's dirt bike (yes, his new one) was stolen from our carport.  Pretty sad about that, and insurance will not cover it.  Oh, well...

Our new deck extension is almost done, needs to be stained and then our new shed will also be completed once the door is on.  Yes, we realize that the work was done a bit too late, if the dirt bike was in the shed, perhaps it wouldn't have gotten stolen.  Live and learn...

Bogdan is gone to his Radio Astronomy meeting this week in West Virginia, having fun with lots of tech-geeks.

Vacation Bible School is this week and there are about 80 kids, plus tons of teen volunteers.  They are all doing well in the heat.

Summer in session

Getting ready for Vacation Bible School next week, about 100 kids expected to come.  Making music CD's for all the kids, getting songbooks ready, practicing music.

Anna is counting the days until her Ulster sisters arrive.  They will be here the night of June 28th!!  We have the bunk bed installed and the girls have a small dresser for themselves.  We just have to remind Anna to keep her room clean!!

The kids have started loving late night swimming, basically right before the pool closes, and the lights are on in the pool. It gets a bit cool, but they think it's fun.

We got news that we are welcoming another priest to our church.  That will make 3 priests and 2 deacons, unheard of for even here!  This new priest has only been ordained for a few weeks, so we will be his first assignment.

DC recap

Lots of fun in DC.  TONS of Girl Scouts in DC.  I saw one posting that said "Girl Scouts descending upon the Nation's Capital.  They look hostile.  Do not engage."

In brief, we saw: Capitol Building, Library of Congress, WWII Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, MLK Memorial, FDR Memorial, Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington Monuments, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Holocaust Museum.

We did Rock the Mall, with a sing-a-long, flash mob (Marian was great and videotaped by someone right near us!), swapped many swaps, met someone as far as San Francisco and Florida and New Hampshire, had many lemon Italian ices, too much fast food and saw 8 movies along the way up and back on the bus.

Here is a sampling of some photos!
