The Word Became Flesh...And Dwelt Among Us

Leader: I paused on a winter night and felt the beauty of the landscape and gazed at the stars on that cold night.  I marveled at a presence more than mine in that moment of wonder…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I visited a dying woman in the hospital.  I sensed her courage and strength in the midst of loss…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I looked into the eyes of the clerk in the department store.  They were the eyes of one who was tired and discouraged…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I opened a newspaper and saw a photo of someone killed in a war.  Friends and family wept over them as they saw that same photo…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I unpacked my manger set and placed each piece in the homemade stable.  I thought about that first Christmas so long ago…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I spent the early morning in prayer, asking God to show me the meaning of the incarnation in my life…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I read a letter from a family member who still has no work.  I grieve with them as they worry about their future…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Leader: I went to church today and sang the songs of Advent yearning, I turned my heart to the God, and I begged for Him to make my heart a dwelling place for his Son…
ALL: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

ALL:
O Word made flesh; you came to dwell among us long ago.  No matter how dull and lifeless, or how happy and fulfilling our lives may be, there is always need for deeper awareness of your hopeful presence.  There are signs of your coming, signs of your continued presence, everywhere in our lives.  Freshen up our vision so that we can recognize your dwelling within us and among us as we move hurriedly in this busy season of the year.  May our lives be filled with love for all who come our way.  Amen.
